Well, I've been tagged by a few lovely people...you know who you are...so here goes with 8 facts about me.
(1) I so, so, so loved breast feeding. I only had babies so I could breast feed...joke..but almost! I used to dream of doing it wondered what it was like. I read every available book to learn the techniques and bought every type of breast pad on the market. This is a photo (of a photo - haven't connected the scanner to my lap top yet) of me actually doing it for the first time with my new son 17 years ago. Little did I know what was to come. Cracked nipples, bleeding nipples, engorgement, and an abscess and so much milk that I had to change every item of my clothing except my socks! On my first day home from hospital I had midwives running around with towels and cabbage leaves (meant to help the engorgement, how - who knows). My dear friend Justine still talks about it to this day about the size of my poor swollen bosoms - I think it has scarred her for life! I was determined to keep trying though, through all the pain and blood and managed to feed for 13 months. I had to use a nipple shield all the time. and the midwife told me that I had rubbish nipples and I had to agree with her. Darn fair skin! I fed all 3 children with my trusty shields) though didn't manage as long with Lucy and Alice - not so much milk with them! I still miss it though and would have loved to have fed twins..
(2) I love libraries. My children hold the record for the youngest children joining the library. Um..well...Tom was only 3 weeks old! Come on, you too would have wanted to see his sweet new name on his own library card! By the time I got to Alice it meant there was another card, and that meant another 10 books! Now, I can check books online and that is almost as good as it gets for me.
(3)
This is the Jane that Anth fell in love with on one of our first dates. This was the first photo he ever took of me. It was taken near Stranraer, Scotland in 1984. I used to travel up from London for the weekend once a month and for the rest of the time I would save up what little money I had left and buy Laura Ashley dresses and nighties. Then we set up home together so it started my life long passion for Laura A bedlinen (the modern stuff they have now isn't quite the same). I really wish I had kept my old LA catalogues 1981 to 1988 they would bring back many memories. Umm I think I'll have to try on ebay and hope!
(4) The Jane he loves now is a little wider but still adores him. I am constantly surprised by how my tastes are changing though. I really am evolving into an 'old' person and it surprises me. Take this year's Big Brother. In a house initially full of women (approx 9 under 25 and 2 over 55 - not sure exactly) I would have loved to sat and chatted to Lesley (the oldest contestant) about the Woman's Institute she belongs to rather than cavort around the garden screaming in a girlie way about girlie things. I watch the programme and the selfishness of the young girls really bugs me - and the mess, and the lack of a weekly menu! I now enjoy programmes that my father would enjoy! Maybe my days of cavorting are over..
(5) Gosh, this is going on...sorry! I am very happy with my own company. Maybe this too is due to age but I don't fear loneliness like I used to. I now don't clutter up my life with people who don't make my soul sing.
(6) I tend only to read non-fiction books. Why? I have no idea!
(7) I have already decided what I'm making my loved ones for Christmas and hope to start soon as I promised myself last Christmas! But, don't hold me to it just yet..
(8... Are you asleep yet?) I am not a very tidy person. I take an absolute age to tidy a room as I go from one thing to another never finishing anything and then get in a bigger muddle. And I won't mention that I hate putting my clothes away...!
So there you go. I tag anyone who would like to play. Oh yes, the ripple pattern comes from the book 200 Ripple Stitch Patterns by Jan Eaton and it's the Soft Waves blanket.
