Hello & welcome!

  • My name is Jane and I live in a seaside town in Devon, England. I'm a mother to 3 lovely children and I'm happily married to Anthony. I work part-time as a Teaching Assistant and the rest of the time I can be found sewing, treasure hunting, crocheting, gardening and re-painting the furniture.

Reasons to be cheerful - the British Countryside

Brents_012

My favourite, favourite view.

I cannot quite believe that this wonderful sight was only 100 yards from my childhood home. I like to think that my love of English cottages must have seeped into my very essence whilst I was growing up in the delightful town of Shaftesbury in Dorset. I spent my childhood living in 2 hotels, as my parents were the managers of them. So maybe, living in something so far removed from a tiny cottage has made me yearn for one of my own. I just think it would be so 'me'!

Anyway, this view is of Gold Hill and I never tire of it. At the top there is a cafe where one can sip tea and just stare and daydream. And I promise you, it looks just like it does in this picture. Perfect.

I LOVE this photo!!! You buy one and I will and we can be neighbors!

Such a lovely sight !

I always think of the Hovis ad
(It was Hovis ?) with the boy and his bicycle ... pushing it uphill Golden Hill!

Quintessential ... English country cottage ! I hope we will both get there one day !

Hi Gina,
Yes, it was Hovis!
Hope you get there as it is so worth it..

Oh yes I remember the Hovis ad too. Love this view but don't fancy having to walk up the hill, actually now I come to think of it I don't fancy the walk down very much either, I would probably timble head over heel.

oh my, you do live in the most beautiful spot!

Oh Posy - what a wonderful memory to have imprinted on the brain!

absolute heaven!

Heaven. Pure, pure, heaven!

I know this view so well, but only because I have a jigsaw of it. I never actually knew where it was.

Oh how beautiful, thank you for the photo. So green and wounderful.

Oh how I wish I was there!

Dorset!
I remember watching the My Family on TV. The wife Susan wanted to go to Dorset for their anniversary. Now I know why. It’s just beautiful!

What a gorgeous spot and how wonderful to have grown up there. Asolute perfection!

Sorry, should have said absolute perfection.

Perfect! Just the way I remember England. So funny how ancient those roofs are, yet I have to assume they still don't leak 'else they'd have been replaced by now? Thanks for sharin'!

those houses are where my dreams live. Someday. Someday.

The stuff dreams are made of....

Oh, I'd love to sip tea or coffee at the top of the hill and soak in this view. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Jody

It looks gorgeous. What a beautiful view. I'll have one of those cottages too please!

Oh my! This image really can make one dream away!

Wonderful view, perhaps we could all meet at the cafe and sip tea together in silence whilst we all gaze at the view.
Thanks for sharing this truly stunning scene.

wow!!!

i used to want to live in a cottage too instead of the urban terrace we did live in! now I have my own, well ok I still dont live in it and its mostly rented out to holidaymakers a lot of the year (gotta pay the mortgage!) but we go often and I live out my cottage fantasy. thanks for showing us the view jane, its just lovely lovely lovely!!

Lovely landscape. I always say England is the most beautiful country in all the world.

memories, idilic location, if only all english villages had retained their charm as this one obviously has. I have moved to a sleepy village in burgundy france because our pretty, quaint english village turned into a yob run misery. but I am very happy here so no regrets just memories

Hello! I just love your blog and had to tell you that I'm just green with envy over this view.

Ahhhh.. my brain is on overload. That is a gorgeous view.

Thank you so much for the beautiful photo. Ten years ago this September, I moved to England (East Anglia) and lived there for just over a year. I long to return one day soon and visit all fantastic places. I miss it so...
Thank you for sharing this fabulous view! ;)

Oh, how absolutely beautiful! It just about takes your breath away... thanks so much for sharing it!

How perfectly beautiful--Gold Hill looks like the ultimate cottage dream location.

Breathtaking!!!

It looks like a fairytale!
I love it!
Rosemary

How absolutely beautiful. Thanks for giving us the picture!

Do you think the folks who live in those cottages know how lucky they are? It must be hard to be blue in such a beautiful place.

Ahhh, I've decided I have to visit England someday.

What a beautiful, beautiful view!! How blessed you must feel to be able to be in places like that. Thank you for sharing that with us.

As Above -

It's like a scene from a movie! What a lovely view. Makes one want to live there. sigh.

Hi Posy,

I just love english countryside! I left my heart once in Devon when I lived there -only a year though... but time spent there was enough for me to fell in love.
I lived in Exeter (countryside) and in Plymouth (town) -went there studying about ten years ago. My english is a bit rusty nowadays but hey, I'm trying my best here.

I enjoy your lovely pictures and stories.I dream that I could come to Devon again for a holiday once and bring along my family, hubby and son, and finally show them all the places I used to go.

Lots of love from Finland, Niina

How lovely - thank you Jane, aren't we so lucky to have such views in Britain? Gorgeous!
