I don't know about you but one thing I love about having daughters is the hair ties! I mean that I seriously have to restrain myself from shopping in Monsoon or Accessorize and now even Boots the chemist and the supermarkets are getting into the act. As soon as their hair was long enough (at about 1 year!) and I could scrape their hair into bunches they had to have them, even if they looked like tiny shaving brushes! Of course the greatest thing in my eyes...what I had really, really wanted them to have was plaits. Oh yes, we started off with tiny, thin narrow ones and and have never looked back - that is until now! At 10 and 13 they have become fed up and feel they're babyish. Umm. I suppose the flowery hair ties don't help.
The white ones in the picture are from a company called aztec and I love them so much I decided to have a go and make my own.
They weren't hard to do but to find yarn fine enough was tricky. I used a cotton Rowan 4 ply in the end.
Now that Alice has recovered from her bout of flu she has been helping me look after Daddy.
This morning she took his tea up to him and even made me my sandwich for lunch! That was a very strange feeling - sitting eating my lunch that had been made by my daughter...does that make me a bad mother or do I just have a 'helpful' child? I suppose I should just make the most of it as I'm sure it will wear off as soon as the dreaded hormones kick in!
